  ‘We’ll have a houseful of babies,’ he promised.

  She sniffed back her tears, then laughed softly. ‘And a Newfoundland dog.’

  He smiled. ‘Yes. And kittens and cats…’

  She sighed happily. ‘Is this a proposal?’

  ‘It had better be. I’m sure as heck not going to move into a house filled with babies and cats and dogs unless you’re there to take care of them with me.’

  They smiled into each other’s eyes and then Logan swung her into his arms.

  ‘When do you have to be back at the office?’ she whispered.

  ‘Whenever I decide to get there. You’d be amazed how well things run without me.’

  Talia shook her head as she linked her arms around his neck. ‘Nothing runs smoothly without you.’

  Logan grinned. ‘So,’ he said, sinking down before the fireplace with her still in his arms, ‘what shall we do with the rest of the day, hmm? It’s still snowing—for all I know, we’re going to be snow-bound for a week.’

  She sighed dramatically. ‘Well, let’s see. There’s lots to eat. Chicken soup…’

  ‘World-class chicken soup, if you please.’

  She laughed. ‘And the doctor’s been here, so I have all the medication I need.’

  Logan’s eyes turned to emerald. ‘Not all, sweetheart,’ he whispered. He kissed her, and, when finally he raised his head, Talia’s heart was racing as rapidly as his. ‘I think I’m just going to have to administer my own therapy all through the day and into the night.’

  ‘For the rest of our lives,’ she said softly.

  Logan smiled as he drew her down beside him. After a while, the only sounds in the room were the crackling of the logs on the hearth and the sound of the wind as it played softly through the eaves.
